Eighth Grade: Room

Hello! I am Deena Brennan, and I teach Religion for the Junior High. Mr. Brennan and I have been married for 28 years, and we have two children, Patrick and Colleen, who are both college graduates. I have lived in Parma my entire life and graduated from Valley Forge HS. I graduated from the University of Dayton in 1992. Outside of teaching, I like to be active outdoors. You might find me hiking or biking in the National Park or the Metroparks.

As the Junior High Religion teacher, I teach all Religious education to the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Through these years, students not only learn prayers and the history of their faith, but they also are given the opportunity to grow their relationship with God.

In the Sixth Grade, students focus on learning the Old Testament. We begin with the Creation story and travel forward through the Patriarchs and the settling of the Israelites. There is also a large unit based on the Mass.

In Seventh Grade, we move into the New Testament to learn about Jesus from his nativity through his death. We focus on his works and his outward generosity to the people. We also begin the process of preparation for Confirmation. There is a large unit based on the Seven Sacraments.

Confirmation is the main focus for Eighth Grade. However, we also focus on what Jesus did for others during his life and how to do the same. Special activities for 8th graders in Religion include the Got Prayer? Retreat offered by Trinity High School and building your own cathedral in conjunction with STEM class.
