Parish School of Religion (PSR)

The Saint Columbkille Parish School of Religion (PSR) is a Catholic Religious Education Program for children in grades 1-8 who attend public or independent private schools. It is a privilege and the purpose of Saint Columbkille PSR to assist parents and guardians in the ongoing effort of preparing their children for roles as Catholic Christians in today’s society. A variety of programs are available, both in and out of the classroom, providing faith formation, prayer, service opportunities, family faith activities, and spiritual experiences for the children.

Registration fee for PSR classes (Grades 1-8) is as follows:  

- $50 for one child

- $80 for two children 

- $100 for three or more children (family maximum)

St. Columbkille PSR offers three options for children in Grades 1-6:

Traditional Weekly PSR

- Held weekly in the school classrooms on Monday

  evenings from 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM.

- Children meet in the school classrooms,

   approximately 10-12 children per class.

- Families are required to complete a Family Faith   

  Activity at home each week which includes at least

  one service activity per quarter.

- Families (at least one  parent per family) are required

   to participate in four intergenerational events held

   throughout the year.

Family PSR

- In-person family sessions  are held in the school gym

   on the First Monday of the month from 6:30 PM to

   7:45 PM (At least one parent/guardian per family

   must attend).

- Monthly sessions include family activities, grade-level

   instruction for the children, prayer, parent     

   information, and so much more!

- For the remaining weeks of each month, families

   complete the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies at home.

   Student materials and parent teaching guides are

   provided.

- Each family must complete at least one service

   related  activity per quarter.

Home-School PSR

- Using the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies, weekly lessons 

  are taught at home by the parent/guardian.Student 

  materials and parent teaching guides are provided.

- Each week, after completing   the Gospel Weekly

   Lesson, an online assessment must be submitted.

- Home-School families must schedule a meeting or

   interview with the Director of PSR at the end of each

   semester.

- As with the other PSR options, Home-School

   families must complete one service related activity

   per quarter.

PSR for Grades 7 and 8 uses the program: Chosen: Your Journey Toward Confirmation by Ascension Press.  Chosen is an engaging, fun, and life changing experience that calls our young people to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and offers a new approach to youth catechesis and sacramental preparation. Chosen is a two-year, Confirmation preparation program. Using video and small group discussion, Chosen offers a much different approach to the typical classroom model.  

St. Columbkille PSR sessions for Grades 7 and 8 are held in-person on select Sunday mornings from 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM.

- In-person sessions are held approximately twice per month 

- Grade 7 meets in the school.

- Grade 8 meets in the Parish Center.

- In addition to the Sunday morning sessions, additional activities may include: retreats, beginning and end of the year PSR events, and service projects.
